Dear Parents and Guardians,
Congratulations to our Honors Math students in 7th and 8th grade. All of these students were invited to sit for the IHM Math Test and a number of these students moved on for the final assessment. Six of our students placed!!! We are bursting with pride for our eighth graders: out of 1100 students who took the test, Andrew Tran placed 4th, Jackie Nguyen placed 7th, and Olivia Wick received Honorable Mention for placing 12th. In our seventh grade out of 860 students who sat for the test, Jerry Rullo placed 2nd and Chris Crognale placed 3rd, while Ava Jones received Honorable Mention for placing 14th. This is an extremely high number for such a small school, and is a testament to the hard work of our students and the strong teaching of our faculty.
Thank you to our families who participated in the Easter Flower Service Project. These families brought flowers to parishioners who had lost a loved one in the last year. Thank you for your willingness to offer a loving remembrance to our parishioners! See attached picture.
The state of Pennsylvania has made some changes to the School Vaccination Requirements for 2017 – 2018 school year, and I wanted to give you some time to prepare. In order to attend any school in Pennsylvania, students must have all vaccinations by the first day of class. Please see the attached directive from the Department of Health.
The students have been working on their final Performance Assessments in all subject areas in grades 4 – 8. Primary grades 1 – 3 complete Performance Assessments in Religion/ELA and Math. (Finals will still be given the first week in June.) These assessments are completed in school and are on a wide variety of subjects. They foster both critical thinking and organizing their learnings and ideas in the written form. Try not to be too frustrated that you cannot support this learning. The goal is to have students work as independently as possible.
Our Parish May Procession Wednesday, May 31st. ALL students are expected to be present for this celebration of our Blessed Mother. Students need to arrive by 6:45 PM and should come down to the gym and find their teacher. Children in non-Sacramental years should come in their uniforms. Grade 2 should be in their First Communion attire and Grade 6 should wear their Confirmation Robes. We ask all 8th graders to come in their graduation robes. Each child should have a rosary. The students will process over to Church. This is a Parish celebration as it includes the seniors of our Parish who actually crown Mary. I hope that you will join us, as well!
Gentle Reminder: Live Mercy will be on May 11. We are again in need of old pairs of jeans for one of our projects.
Gentle Reminder: Reregistration forms should have been sent back to school.
As always, thank you for all you do for Sacred Heart and Catholic Education!!
