Welcome to Sacred Heart School’s school website. We have information here about our school, including curriculum, activities and student life. Our Handbook will answer your questions about our policies, but here are some of the most frequently asked questions we encounter.
When does school start and end?
Traditionally the first day of school for grades 1-8 is the Tuesday after Labor Day. PreK & Kinder classes usually starts the Monday after the rest of the school. We finish the school year in mid-June. Please refer to the annual calendar via the homepage for complete details.
DO YOU OFFER PREK3?
Yes! Your child must be three by Sept 1st & also bathroom trained.What are the hours of the school day?
The day starts at 8am and students are dismissed at 2:50pm. Our half day PreK students are dismissed at 11:15a.m. and full day PreK students are dismissed at 2:30pm at our West Chester Pike exit.
At what age can my child start kindergarten?
Your child must be 5 years old by September 1st of the year they plan to begin school.What are the hours for kindergarten? Is busing available for kindergartners?
The kindergarten is a full day program. Busing is available for most school districts.Where can I purchase the uniform?
The regular uniform and our gym uniform can be purchased at Flynn and O’Hara in Lawrence Park Shopping Center. On select days we will also have our school thrift shop open for gently worn used clothingWhere can I find tuition information?
Our tuition pricing is found under the admissions tab.How do the children usually get to and from school?
Students have the option of taking a bus, being driven, or walking to and from school. If you are driving your children to school in the morning, you will enter from West Chester Pike and drop off at the Main Entrance. If you are picking up your children, enter from West Chester Pike and wait in our car line. The teacher will bring your child to your car.When do I get the bus schedule?
The bus drop off and pick up times and locations are mailed to the families in the last two weeks of August from the school districts. Please make sure you write down for your child their specific bus number and school district for both morning and afternoon. It is also a good idea to put their bus number, information in their backpack, so the faculty can quickly check it if a younger child gets confused.How are school supplies handled?
Certain supplies must be purchased through school. Your child’s teacher will send a specific list home at the end of the school year with more details and information.Do students bring their lunch or can they buy lunch at school?
Students can bring their lunch to school. We have a lunch program available with McGillicuddy's. You will be able to order monthly.
When is recess?
Morning recess is usually around 10am and children bring their own snack or buy a pretzel. Pretzel forms are sent home in the beginning on the year.How is information communicated to the parents?
Information to parents is primarily through FACTS. Sister Pat will send home a weekly newsletter/update via email on Fridays, Sacred Heart News. You can also find information on our website, Facebook parent page (Sacred Heart School Manoa Parent Page). In addition, faculty and staff are always available to meet with parents. In case of emergency or a school closing there will be an instant voicemail/text sent out to all parents/guardians.What volunteer opportunities are available for parents?
Our volunteers at Sacred Heart help make our school a vibrant community. We count on your help and look forward to your involvement. There are many ways to volunteer, all of which can be found in our Volunteer Opportunities list on the homepage. Lunch parents, homeroom parents, Scrip and fun money sellers are always needed and appreciated. There are also many Home and School events throughout the year with volunteer opportunities. In order to be a volunteer you must complete all of your clearances.What is the average class size?
Class sizes vary due to many factors. Currently classes range from the high teens to mid to high twenties in each homeroom. Enrollment is reviewed and approved by the pastor and principal.What special services are available to students?
In addition to the curriculum, special services available to our students includes: Delaware County Intermediate Unit – Reading remediation, speech and language service, and school psychologist.Are there aides in PreK and Kindergarten?
Currently there is one full time aide in each PreK. Our Kindergarten classes share one aid.How do you handle students with allergies or health issues?
We have a nurse on staff who coordinates the care for all health issues. She keeps the faculty and staff informed of the students’ needs and level of care.
